And this is how the world is changed!

Last 4 days has been like a dream!

Signed 4 collaborations in 4 days. Pixel Qi, Inventec, Foxconn and Compalcomm in sequence. And there is yet 1 more day to go! So finally we saw how the screen would look like. Its really impressive and is exactly what we predicted in terms of the performance and quality. We love it. It will bring in a revolution in itself.
Most impressive meetings we had were with Pixel Qi and Foxconn. Pixel Qi has shown trust and confidence in our firm and its a huge moral boost for us. With their wisdom and experience coming into play, we can quite well deliver exactly what we want. Special thanks here goes to Mr John Ryan and Mr Frank Lee. We are young and can take more risks. If we are going to take 5 years before we succeed, then five years is a good experience. And if we are successful in our first attempt, it will definitely be because of the people who are providing us moral, mental and spiritual support using their hard earned experience and wisdom.
We will add more to this space in terms of the collaboration with Foxconn, Inventec and Compalcomm as the time unfold. All we can say here is, things as per now looks very exciting and promising in the near future. They are the biggest and we are the newest Kids around. We sure can rock.
On a odd note. It took us 3 months just to sign 2 NDAs in India. There is a huge difference when we see how things work out in India and here in Taiwan. For some reason things are not as mature for business as they are here. And it really burdens us with the work people in India has done since 1991 to make things at least this easy. We have just heard of stories of people waiting for even phone connections for years let alone signing a contract. I personally cannot imagine toil it will have on our ambitions if things were like pre-1990s. Though I wont deny there is a lot of work still to be done.
People in India need to understand that the world is moving really very fast. When we say India is 40 years behind USA and 20 years behind China, there are more reasons to it than just comparing the infrastructure. Its the complete environment. Complete eco-system which makes things easier for evolution of brilliant ideas and its implementation. Though we cannot measure creativity in time, but time does have its disintegrating effects. Ideas dont care in whose mind they are gonna land. If not India, then China.
May be we are on the course of making a history here. This is something never has been done by any Indian Company nor by any Indian. More than being personal ambition its a matter of national pride for us. Something which will stop the world say we are best at call centers and for maintaining web-sites, a 3rd end solution. We will make the world stand on its feet and give us the standing ovation we rightly deserve even for our ideas which have already changed the world, right from the zero to the concept of OOPs in computer programming.
When we pray, we only ask for one thing, ‘Make Our Faiths Firm’.
From Taipei, with Love!

Bit of Engineering and its Big Difference

Posted in Misc by Rohan Shravan on May 20, 2009

It just takes a bit of engineering to cause the big difference in everyday life. Sulphur in rubber. Carbon in iron. Germanium in silicon. GUI in computers. These all were the small ideas with magnificent results in the course of human history. And every great vision in the end is based on a very simple and fundamental notion.

Small ideas leave huge trails when people feel connection with it. When they think they are gaining something which they always lacked. When they make emotional connections. And when these ideas give people the power to personalize things, it becomes ubiquitous and indispensable. Isn’t that what every manufacturer in the end wants?

Blue whales cant experiment with different maneuver styles. Its difficult for them to gain momentum for them. It is the smaller fishes which ushers a new range of brilliant water acrobats. It starts with one, and soon there are thousands of them dancing in the tune of wet notes. Same applies in the case of industries as well. Disruption is caused by newer firms, by those who are not exposed to standards, principles and guidelines.

What is the perfect form factor of a ubiquitous device? It should act as computer, mobile, camera, scanner, gaming console, learning tool and much more. It cannot have one size to do all these tasks. But then nano-technology is not promising it within-next decade. That would mean, we will still experiment with different form factors for this kind of device.

But these are interesting times. Big players don’t act as Blue Whales. Some behave as sharks and some as white, curvaceous, smooth and gloss finished dolphins. They have the capacity of gaining momentum once they feel the new maneuver is attractive enough to be repeated. This makes things more competitive for smaller fishes. So, what should they do?

Brilliance lies in the intelligent implementation of simpler ideas. Understanding the most basic needs, and make an emotional product. Work on personalization and set standards which others cannot meet. Be disruptive. Make the product perfect in doing the most basic of the tasks and give an option where others can add in. Leave intuitive blanks for other players to fill in and earn money and respect.

Decades of Delays

“The only way of finding the limits of the possible, is by going beyond them”
- Arthur C. Clarke

Evolution is slow. And what we humans create, is a part of it. And follows the same principle as the nature itself. “There are innumerous possibilities. And the ones which are chosen to become the part of the system are governed by the conscience of the universe.” This is what is the underlining principle of Quantum Physics. And it is applicable every where.

In the case of universe, the conscience is ubiquitous. Every choice is the collective decision of every atom, electron, mind, everything in the world. But that’s not the same in the case of the direction of technology we see is progressing. The reason is monopoly and its restrictive dynamics. We are here to break this monopoly. We are here to give people a new vision. A new leader. And our efforts will show our potential. There will not be followers, but co-founders.

There is a huge delay in terms of the enabling tools we see in the market. One of the major reason is the lack of different visions. Different to create competition. Different to challenge existing rules. And different to catalyse innovation. When firms become big, they lose connection with general but new needs. They force people to adopt and adapt. Its inevitable and will cause problems for us as well in future. And right now we would love to be in such a situation.

What we are going to present is something which we always thought will come one day. We have been waiting for it since long. And the reason it is still not there is not difficult to understand. Its a huge challenge for the established players to bring changes for which they need to re-adjust. Re-adjusting is risky, costly and leads to unknown futures. Quite understandable.

But, we are New and Young. We, are the change.

Days are not far.

Posted in Technology by Rohan Shravan on May 1, 2009

The days are not far when any common product will be a marvel of engineering, implementing the software capability at the hardware level. In fact, many market trends suggests that this is already happening. Not only this will take the indirect load off the processors, it will reduce power usage, faster products and will give unimaginable enabling power to the common user.

This trend is right now in the ‘reverse engineering’ mode. Softwares and other applications (GUI) are currently being developed specially taking advantages of the power of the hardware, say GPU for instance. Putting load directly on the hardware and making applications independent of the incumbent OSes. But this reverse engineering method is limited to the astuteness of the programmer who for a matter of fact, does not represent the community of hardware designers or driver writers.

The tipping point is about to be reached and there will be larger symbiosis between hardware and software. In exact words, hardware designed specifically for applications. A perfect example in this case would be Jazelle. Expect the hardware of the future specially designed for taking care of specifically, say GUI. Expect the future screens made up of transistors and not pixels, with its own memory and clocks. With billions of transistors already on the minuscule silicon chip, it is not a matter of complexity as it is about adoption and vision. Future is always brighter and innovative.

Innovation is Revolution

Posted in The Firm by Rohan Shravan on April 29, 2009

What we are looking for is, giving the user the complete freedom to define the basics and not the industry leaders. Till now simple things like document editing, managing numbers and making presentation are considered art. Something which you learn, by practise. But, do the current tools actually make things easier for the general user? Shouldn’t the systems be designed for the 99% general users and not for the expert 1%?

We are also hoping to change the way we view the concept of “mobility”. Its not being able to take you laptop  or netbook in and around your home or office for some 2-3 hours. It is being able to use the devices when you are travelling in trains, cars, while sitting at coffee shops, while eating at McDonald’s. “True Mobility” as we define is a wireless experience for hours which outperform number of hours we can use it at a go. We define it as a always on, always connected and an always enabling device.

We are going to change the form-factor of the devices which will come after us. We will usher a new understanding of what we actually need. Our research will prove that innovation in its exact sense is, revolution. A solution to the problem of adoption of the idea. A Notion Ink.
