I got right in on pre-order at 7 PM EST. Took only about 5 min. with reading every word. Used AMEX so fairly well covered for fraud. The early adopters here are interested in helping grow the technology. Yes, this is one of those cases where you would not want to wager your lunch money on a new and untested product. I use a Pixel Qi screen every work day in the sunshine now and this product will enhance my work environment considerably when completely developed. R&D stands for research and development, not rube and dumb as some feel here. Some times you have to be on the “bleeding edge” before getting to the “leading edge”
That’s my experience too. No problem ordering.
I consider my money and my purchase as an investment in the interest of growing a new technology. It’s rare that you see such a well thought out product. And that is what I’m rewarding in with my money.
There is no doubt that Rohan and his crew made some mistakes, they are young and have little business experience. There is no way they could have second guessed all the challenges they’ve been put through. Investing an a pre-order on a start-up company is definitely a gamble. And guess what? Those of you who don’t have $600 dollars to gamble, should not be gambling with your money. If you are low in resources, wait for it to come out in stores, then spend your money. Yes next year they may be some pretty hefty competitors, but who cares, my money, I believe, is supporting a company that has really thought through a product for power users in a way that you rarely see any company do. The iPad for instance (yes I own one), in no way considers the power user. Yes my 5 year old daughter can use it, but for me it’s an exercise in frustration.
I’ve posted here several times in the past (months ago) and never got a preorder email, and that coupled with the fact that I couldn’t get out in time to use someone else’s Visa (since I have only MC) leaves me out of the loop for the Pixel Qi this time around. Might be for the best, though, I figure. If it’s possible to get one from a retail store up the road, I’d rather have to return it to a store than ship it across the world if there’s a problem with it.
The sold out status is probably a limitation from Pixel Qi production. Screens seem to be the limiting factor on many products lately. I think that the screen is what brought many people into the family in the first place, and so they sold out quickly. How could “marketing” have helped sell out faster than less than 12 hours? I for one congratulate them on the fact that they set limitations and did not continue to accept orders that they could not fill on a timely basis. This shows that they are responsible and care about customer service and experience.
A company that was perpetuating a fraud or scam would not have limited the “suckers” as we have been described in the Engadget comments section. They would have sucked all of the orders in while the getting was good. They also limited the pre-orders to one unit to try and be fair and limit the after market Fleabay trade. This is responsible corporate behavior. Something that is rare in the world today.
I was not able to order the top of line model because the order process was not working in North America – New York City to be exact. Rohan this is not fair and now that model is sold out. When will the next batch of units become available and why did you not project this type of volume from the public. You make a world wide release and you did not project the type of interest and response you would receive? I can’t believe you young engineers and software developers did not see the need to hire a marketing and sales distribution expert to plan and implement the process necessary to sell and distribute your product to the public. Too many things went wrong and I expect better performance from Notion Ink in the future. I still believe in your vision and I still want the top of line Adam, Rohan give me my machine.
I understand and am slightly irritated by Notion Inks lack of photos/video of a physical unit and yet you expect us to hand over money – especially when Android Police are slating you and the company for supposedly hoodwinking us into believing the product is ready to release when in fact you apparently dong have FCC approval yet!!!!!!
Sadly, it does start to feel like an elaborate scam. The units dont exist, Mastercard bounce payments as they believe they will be liable for fees if this is a scam, Android Police say the unit cant be all its cracked up to be – so we’ll all be disappointed.
Whilst $600 is not necessarily a lot of money but when we add in the UK VAT that will be charged (20%) on arrival into UK, this then becomes very comparable to iPad – which IS tried and tested, does do what it says on the tin and is available to even look at!
Rohan sort yourselves out – put ALL the doubts to bed and show the bloody unit. There is no point waiting until 18 December. You have the unit there – photograph it. Set up a simple webcam and show it in action. I dont have time for Android Police but come on, their concerns are reasonable and you will lose an awful lot of custom if you fail to address these issues properly.
Darn, i do not have Visa or American Express…so no i am fucked! Will have to wait when it can be purchased in the store since i have MasterCard. Hmm apparently Europe is not that important!!!!!
if this was a scam that he worked on for 2 years, and went to trade shows showing off a prototype, made a fake webpage, had a fake logo contest, so he could just take our money on this day, then I say he deserves it because it would be the best scam ever…
Plus I called my card before I ordered, and I can file fraud and get my money back if it isn’t here in 6-8 weeks.
Everyone relax. Did he make some business mistakes today with the release, maybe. But is he obsessed with making the best tablet ever, definitely yes.
Who’s talking about scam? I’m talking about REAL update… like what has happened with initial pre-orders, why we haven’t been informed, and most importantly where are some tangible proofs of Adam’s existing? I’m just concerned future Adamaholic
I ordered the adam. But living in Bangalore the 50$ shipping is a bit too much. I can collect the adam directly from their office here. It will be cheaper. Rohan 50$ delivery charge was a curveball.

The mystery feature is that it will cook you a sandwich (that too out of thin air). What a joke Rohan has turned out to be.
This is the first time I’ve preordered something on the internet without seeing any reviews or demos of the actual product .
Waiting for ADAM
i love the adam
Relax guys Just check it out – we are like all those people Some turn back, some not
Couldn’t help but to laugh =)))
quando sarà disponibile il 3G???????? chi sa dirmi la differenza tra il modello 850 e 900.
Grazie

So, now im up and I haven’t gotten this emal with the preorder link. And where is a comment from Rohan ??
What!!! No MasterCard!
And Europe was soooo important!?
Rohan, check your bussines again. If private people have a CreditCard in Europe about 75% is a MasterCard.
Too bad. Now I have to wait untill I can get it in a shop or anything.
Very sad regards,

It’s 10 o’clock in India isn’t it? Mr. Shravan we’re waiting for an update! The real one if you please.
